Rule 160 “Law” includes constitutional, statutory, and decisional law.

When a California court rule or law uses the word "law," it covers three types of law. Constitutional law comes from the U.S. or California constitutions. Statutory law comes from written laws passed by lawmakers. Decisional law comes from past court decisions, sometimes called "case law."

This matters because if a rule says something must follow "the law," you cannot assume it only means one type. All three types count equally.
