Court Rules Network is a free reference site for federal and state court rules, published by Michigan Legal Publishing Ltd. Our goal is to make court rules genuinely readable and useful — whether you're a lawyer, a law student, or anyone who wants to understand how the legal system works.

Federal rules

We publish all six federal court rule sets:

  • Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP)
  • Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure (FRCrP)
  • Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE)
  • Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure (FRAP)
  • Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure (FRBP)
  • Rules for Social Security Review Under 28 U.S.C. § 2201 (SSR)

Federal rule text and committee notes are sourced from the Office of Law Revision Counsel (OLRC), which publishes the official United States Code in XML format. Federal rules are updated annually when OLRC releases a new edition, typically following the December 1 effective date for rule amendments.

Federal courts

We maintain a directory of all 188 federal courts, including 94 district courts and 94 bankruptcy courts. Each court page includes active judge rosters with appointment information, links to the court's website and CM/ECF system, and information about local rule variations from the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

Arizona rules

We publish fourteen Arizona court rule sets:

Arizona rule text is promulgated by the Supreme Court of Arizona and made available to the public through the Court's official portal.

California rules

We publish all nine active titles of the California Rules of Court:

Colorado rule text is sourced directly from the Colorado Office of Legislative Legal Services, which publishes the official compiled Colorado Court Rules on behalf of the Colorado General Assembly. Colorado rules are updated when the Supreme Court of Colorado issues new rule changes.

We publish seven Connecticut court rule sets:

Georgia court rule text is sourced from the Supreme Court of Georgia and the Georgia Court of Appeals. The uniform court rules are published by the judicial councils for each court type and hosted on the Supreme Court website. The Georgia Evidence Code is from the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.) Title 24.

Illinois rules

We publish eight Illinois court rule sets:

Louisiana rules

We publish 13 Louisiana rule sets:

The four Codes are sourced from the Louisiana State Legislature, which publishes them as the official codes. Louisiana procedure is legislative rather than court-promulgated, so these Codes are where most of its practice rules live, and their provisions are cited as articles. The Rules for Louisiana District Courts and the Uniform Rules of the Courts of Appeal are promulgated by the courts themselves and published by the Louisiana Supreme Court. The District Court Rules are one uniform set governing every district, family and juvenile court in the state, in six Titles covering proceedings generally, civil, criminal, family law, juvenile and inmate litigation; the Appendices each judicial district maintains for itself are not included. The Uniform Rules of the Courts of Appeal are likewise a single set, governing practice in all five circuits. The Rules of Professional Conduct come from the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, which the Supreme Court's own court-rules page points to.

Maryland rules

We publish six Maryland court rule sets:

  • Maryland Rules of Civil Procedure — Circuit Court (Title 2)
  • Maryland Rules of Civil Procedure — District Court (Title 3)
  • Maryland Rules of Criminal Causes (Title 4)
  • Maryland Rules of Evidence (Title 5)
  • Maryland Rules of Appellate and Other Judicial Review in Circuit Court (Title 7)
  • Maryland Rules of Appellate Review (Title 8)

Maryland Rules are promulgated by the Supreme Court of Maryland and made available to the public through the Maryland Judiciary's official rules portal. Rules include Committee notes, cross references, and source/amendment history where available.

Massachusetts rules

We publish eight Massachusetts court rule sets, plus the Guide to Evidence:

The three Rules of Procedure are sourced directly from the Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries, which publishes current rule sets in PDF format. Rules include Reporter's Notes and amendment history where available. The three numbered Supreme Judicial Court rules — Professional Conduct, Bar Discipline and Electronic Filing — come from the Court's own consolidated volume of Rules and Orders. Each is divided into its own numbered sections, which is how the Court cites them. The Guide to Evidence is sourced from the Supreme Judicial Court's Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Evidence Law. Massachusetts has not adopted a formal set of evidence rules; the Guide collects and organizes the law of evidence as applied in Massachusetts courts, tracking the structure of the Federal Rules of Evidence.

Michigan rules

We publish the two major Michigan court rule sets:

  • Michigan Rules of Evidence (MRE)

Michigan rule text is sourced directly from the Michigan Courts website, which publishes current rule sets in PDF format. Michigan rules are updated when the Michigan Supreme Court issues new orders amending the rules.

Minnesota rule text is sourced directly from the Minnesota Office of the Revisor of Statutes, which publishes the current text of every rule set promulgated by the Minnesota Supreme Court. Minnesota rules are updated when the Supreme Court issues new orders amending the rules.

Missouri rules

We publish the Missouri Supreme Court Rules as eight rule sets:

  • Missouri Rules Governing the Missouri Bar and the Judiciary

Missouri numbers its rules 1 through 160 in a single continuum and states each rule's division in its own heading, so these eight sets follow the court's own divisions. Missouri rule text is sourced directly from the Missouri Judiciary, which publishes the current text of every rule. Missouri rules are updated when the Supreme Court of Missouri issues new orders amending the rules.

New Jersey rules

We publish all eight parts of the Rules Governing the Courts of the State of New Jersey:

New Jersey rule text is sourced directly from the New Jersey Courts website, which publishes the current Rules of Court. New Jersey rules are updated when the Supreme Court of New Jersey adopts amendments.

New York rules

We publish three New York rule sets:

  • New York Rules of Evidence (CPLR Article 45)
  • New York Criminal Procedure Law (CPL)

New York rule text is sourced from the New York State Senate Open Legislation website, which publishes current consolidated laws and is regularly updated when the legislature amends the statutes.

North Carolina rules

We publish eight North Carolina rule sets:

  • North Carolina Criminal Procedure Act (G.S. ch. 15A)
  • North Carolina Juvenile Code (G.S. ch. 7B)

  • North Carolina Business Court Rules
  • North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct

The Rules of Civil Procedure, the Criminal Procedure Act, the Juvenile Code and the Rules of Evidence are sourced from the North Carolina General Assembly, which publishes the General Statutes where they are codified. North Carolina has no separate volume of criminal rules — criminal procedure in its courts is statutory. The Rules of Appellate Procedure, General Rules of Practice, and Business Court Rules are sourced from the North Carolina Judicial Branch, which publishes the codifications adopted by the Supreme Court of North Carolina. The Rules of Professional Conduct and the Discipline and Disability Rules are sourced from the North Carolina State Bar, which adopts them subject to approval by the Supreme Court of North Carolina. The Rules of Professional Conduct state a lawyer's duties; the Discipline and Disability Rules are the procedure by which they are enforced.

North Dakota rules

We publish eleven North Dakota rule sets:

All eleven are sourced from the North Dakota Court System, which publishes each rule on its own page together with the Supreme Court's explanatory note and a complete version history. Those notes and the amendment dates are carried through to every rule page here.

South Carolina rules

We publish nine South Carolina rule sets:

Pennsylvania rule text is sourced from the Pennsylvania Code, the official publication of Pennsylvania's administrative regulations. Pennsylvania rules are located in Titles 210, 225, 231, 234, and 237 of the Pennsylvania Code.

Texas rules

We publish six Texas rule sets:

  • Texas Rules of Civil Procedure (TRCP)
  • Texas Rules of Evidence (TRE)
  • Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure (TRAP)
  • Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct (TDRPC)
  • Texas Rules of Disciplinary Procedure (TRDP)
  • Texas Code of Criminal Procedure

The court rule sets and both sets of disciplinary rules are sourced directly from the Texas Courts website, which publishes current rule sets in PDF format, and are updated when the Texas Supreme Court or Texas Court of Criminal Appeals issues new orders.

Texas promulgates no separate rules of criminal procedure. Criminal practice in its courts is statutory, so the Code of Criminal Procedure is where those rules live; it is sourced from the Texas Constitution and Statutes site published by the Texas Legislative Council, and is updated after each legislative session.

Virginia rules

We publish six Virginia court rule sets, drawn from Parts One, Two, Three, Three A, Five, and Five A of the Rules of Supreme Court of Virginia:

Wisconsin rules

We publish three Wisconsin court rule sets, codified in the Wisconsin Statutes:

  • Wisconsin Rules of Criminal Procedure (Statutes ch. 967-980)
  • Wisconsin Rules of Evidence (Statutes ch. 901-911)

Wisconsin rule text is sourced directly from the Wisconsin State Legislature, which publishes the current Wisconsin Statutes. Unlike most states, Wisconsin's procedural and evidence rules are enacted as statute chapters rather than promulgated separately by the state supreme court.

Currency and accuracy

We update our rule sets regularly from the primary official sources listed above. Each rule set displays the date it was last imported. While we work to keep rules current and accurately formatted, users should verify critical text against the official source publications, particularly for rules that have been recently amended.
