Rule 633 An obligation delivered up to the debtor is presumed to have been paid.

If you owe someone money and they give you back the written proof of that debt (like a promissory note or loan agreement), the law assumes you paid it off. The person who gave it back cannot simply claim you still owe the money without proof.

This presumption can be challenged in court, but the burden falls on the person trying to prove the debt was not paid. In other words, getting the document back works in your favor if someone later tries to say you never paid.
