If you are deaf or hard of hearing and you use an interpreter to communicate with someone, your private conversations stay protected. For example, if you talk to your lawyer through a sign language interpreter, that conversation is still covered by attorney-client privilege.

Without this rule, someone could argue that bringing in a third person (the interpreter) breaks the privacy protection. This rule makes clear that using an interpreter does not count as giving up your right to keep those conversations private.
