Rule 766 A witness must give responsive answers to questions, and answers that are not responsive shall be stricken on motion of any party.

When you are a witness in court, you must directly answer the question that was asked. You cannot go off topic or add information that was not asked for.

If a witness gives an answer that does not actually respond to the question, any party in the case can ask the judge to strike that answer. When an answer is struck, the jury is told to ignore it.
