Rule 778 After a witness has been excused from giving further testimony in the action, he cannot be recalled without leave of the court.

Once a witness finishes testifying and is told they can go, they cannot simply be called back to the stand. A party who wants to bring that witness back must first ask the judge for permission.

The judge has the power to say yes or no to that request. There is no guarantee the judge will allow it, and the judge can decide based on what seems fair and reasonable in the case.
