Rule 785 The credibility of a witness may be attacked or supported by any party, including the party calling him.

Any lawyer in a court case can question whether a witness is telling the truth. This includes the lawyer who brought that witness to testify in the first place.

In older court traditions, a lawyer was stuck with the witness they called and could not challenge their truthfulness. This rule removes that restriction. Now, if a witness you called to help your case says something surprising or harmful, you can challenge their credibility just like the other side can.
