Rule 789 Evidence of his religious belief or lack thereof is inadmissible to attack or support the credibility of a witness.

A witness's religion, or lack of religion, cannot be used to make them look more or less trustworthy in court. It does not matter if someone is Christian, Muslim, Jewish, atheist, or anything else. That information simply cannot be brought up to influence how the jury or judge views what the witness says.

This protects people from being judged based on their faith rather than the actual facts of the case. A witness's credibility must be judged by other means, such as whether their story is consistent or whether there is evidence they are lying.
