When a lawyer and client have a dispute with each other, their private communications can be used as evidence in court. This applies whether the client is accusing the lawyer of doing something wrong, or the lawyer is accusing the client of doing something wrong, such as not paying their bill.

The attorney-client privilege normally keeps conversations between a lawyer and client private. But that protection goes away when the lawsuit is directly about whether one of them failed to do their job in that relationship. For example, if you sue your lawyer for malpractice, your conversations with that lawyer can be brought into court.
