Rule 610 Religious Beliefs or Opinions

A witness's religion cannot be used to make them look more or less trustworthy in court. It does not matter if the witness is Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, atheist, or anything else. That information simply cannot be brought up to influence how the jury sees them.

This protects people from being judged based on their faith instead of the actual facts of the case. A lawyer cannot suggest that someone is lying because of their religion, and cannot suggest someone is telling the truth because of their religion either.
