Rule 42.1 Opening statements by attorneys

Before a trial begins, the plaintiff's lawyer gets to give an opening statement. This is when they explain to the jury what the case is about and what they plan to prove.

The defendant's lawyer has two choices for when to give their opening statement. They can either speak right after the plaintiff's lawyer, before any witnesses testify, or they can wait until the plaintiff has finished presenting all of their evidence and witnesses.
