(a) Calendars. The court may provide for placing criminal proceedings upon appropriate calendars. Preference shall be given to criminal proceedings as far as practicable.
(b) Plans for achieving prompt disposition of criminal cases. To minimize undue delay and to further the prompt disposition of criminal cases, the court shall conduct a continuing study of the administration of criminal justice and shall prepare plans for the prompt disposition of criminal cases.
The court keeps a schedule of criminal cases and tries to move them forward as quickly as possible. Criminal cases get priority over other types of cases when scheduling.
The court also regularly studies how the criminal justice system is working. Based on that study, the court makes plans to help move criminal cases along without unnecessary delays.
If you have a criminal case in Delaware Superior Court, this rule means the court is actively working to avoid long waits. The goal is to resolve your case in a timely way rather than letting it sit for months or years without action.
