Rule 230 Certain Questions Not to Be Asked

During jury selection, lawyers are not allowed to ask potential jurors certain personal questions. Specifically, they cannot ask questions that would reveal whether a juror has been convicted of a crime that would disqualify them from serving, or whether they are currently facing charges for theft or a felony.

This rule protects jurors from having to publicly share embarrassing or private information in open court. The court has other ways to handle juror qualifications without putting someone on the spot in front of everyone.
