Rule 17 Duties of clerks.

This rule explains what the court clerk must do when handling appeals. It covers two main jobs: telling people about court orders and taking care of court records.

When a court makes an order, the clerk has to mail a notice about it right away to everyone involved in the case. If the court also wrote an opinion explaining the order, the clerk sends a copy of that too. If someone has a lawyer, the clerk sends the notice to the lawyer instead of the person directly. The clerk also has to write down in the court's records that this notice was mailed out.

The clerk is also in charge of keeping all the official records and papers for the court. The clerk cannot let anyone take original documents out of the office unless the court specifically allows it. Once a case is finished, the clerk sends original papers back to the lower court where they came from, but first makes a copy to keep on file. The clerk also keeps copies of legal briefs and other filed documents, unless the court says otherwise.

In short, this rule makes sure people are properly notified about what happens in their case and that important court documents are kept safe and organized.
