When you file an appeal in Alabama, you don't need to submit a separate list of "assignments of error." In the past, some courts required appellants (the person appealing) to formally list each specific mistake they believe the lower court made. Alabama does away with this extra step.
Instead, all you need to do is include a statement of the issues in your appellate brief. This statement, which is already required under Rule 28, covers what you need to tell the court about what you're appealing and why. This makes the process simpler by cutting out a duplicate requirement.
In short, this rule saves you from extra paperwork. As long as your brief clearly lays out the issues you want the court to review, you've met the requirement.
