If you want to file a motion asking the court to cancel a judgment or grant a new trial, you don't have to hand it directly to the judge for it to count as officially filed. Just filing it with the court is enough.
You also don't need to schedule a specific hearing date for the motion when you file it. The paperwork itself completes the filing process, regardless of whether a hearing date has been set yet.
This means people don't have to jump through extra hoops like tracking down the judge in person or locking in a court date right away. As long as the motion gets filed properly with the court, it's considered done and valid.
