This summary is not the rule. The rule text controls.
This rule gives judges some flexibility when it comes to paperwork mistakes. If someone files a motion or request that doesn't follow all the exact formal rules, the judge doesn't have to throw it out just because of that mistake.
Either side in the case can ask the judge to overlook a formal defect, or the judge can decide to do this on their own without anyone asking. This means small errors in how a document is prepared or worded won't necessarily stop the court from considering it.
In practice, this rule helps make sure cases get decided based on their real substance, not just on technical paperwork errors. It gives judges room to focus on what actually matters in a case instead of getting stuck on minor formatting or procedural issues.
