Before your small claims trial, both sides are encouraged to share information with each other, like documents or evidence, ahead of time. This can help both people understand the case better and avoid surprises in court.
However, this sharing is completely voluntary. The judge cannot force you or the other party to exchange information before the trial happens. If the other side won't share anything with you beforehand, that's their choice to make, and the court won't step in to require it.
In practice, this means you should still prepare your case and gather your own evidence, even if the other party doesn't share theirs with you. Don't count on getting a preview of what the other side plans to bring to court.
