Rule 71 Enforcing Relief for or Against a Nonparty

If a court order helps someone who is not directly part of a lawsuit, that person can use the same legal tools to enforce the order as any official party in the case would. The same goes the other way: if a court order requires a nonparty to do something, the court can enforce it against them just like it would against an actual party.

This means being officially named in a lawsuit is not always required for a court order to affect you. The rules treat everyone the same when it comes to following or enforcing a court order, whether or not they are listed as a plaintiff or defendant.
