Rule 601 Competency to Testify in General

Anyone can testify as a witness in an Arizona court. The law assumes people are capable of telling what they know unless a specific rule or law says otherwise.

There are a few situations where a person may not be allowed to testify. Those exceptions are spelled out in other rules or state laws, not in this one. This rule simply sets the starting point: everyone qualifies.
