Rule 610 Religious Beliefs or Opinions

A witness's religion cannot be used to make them look more or less trustworthy in court. It does not matter if someone is deeply religious, follows a different faith, or has no religious beliefs at all.

Neither side can bring up religion to suggest a witness should or should not be believed. For example, a lawyer cannot argue that a witness is more honest because they go to church, or less reliable because they do not believe in God.
