Rule 2.4 External Influences on Judicial Conduct

Judges in Arizona must make decisions based only on the law and the facts of the case. Outside pressure, whether from the public, the media, or critics, should have no effect on how a judge rules.

Personal relationships and outside interests also cannot play a role in a judge's decisions. It does not matter if the connection is family, political, or financial. The judge must stay fair and independent no matter who is involved.

Judges also cannot let anyone think they have special access or influence. If someone gives the impression that they have a "way in" with a judge, the judge must shut that down. The goal is to make sure everyone who comes to court gets a fair shot, with no behind-the-scenes influence affecting the outcome.
