Rule 8.491 Responsive pleading under Code of Civil Procedure section 418.10

When you challenge a court's decision about jurisdiction or service of process, you may file a petition asking a higher court to review it. If both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court say no, you still have time to respond in the original trial court case.

You get 10 days after the Supreme Court officially rejects your petition to file your response in the trial court. This gives you a fair window to respond instead of having your deadline pass while you were waiting for the higher courts to decide.
