Rule 8.642 Filing, finality, and modification of decision; rehearing; remittitur

When someone is sentenced to death and appeals that sentence, the California Supreme Court handles the case. The rules that cover how decisions are filed, made final, and potentially changed all come from a specific set of existing court rules (8.532 through 8.540).

Those same rules also cover what happens if someone asks the court to reconsider its decision, and when the court's final order gets sent back down to the lower court. Rather than creating new procedures for death penalty appeals, this rule simply points to the rules that already apply to other Supreme Court cases.
