If someone has insurance, that fact cannot be used in court to prove they did something wrong or were careless. For example, if a driver had car insurance at the time of an accident, the other side cannot bring up the insurance to argue the driver was at fault.

This rule exists because having insurance says nothing about whether a person acted responsibly or not. Almost everyone carries some form of insurance, so the fact that someone had coverage is not fair evidence of wrongdoing.
