Rule 636 The payment of earlier rent or installments is presumed from a receipt for later rent or installments.

If you have a receipt showing you paid a later rent payment or installment, the court will assume you also paid the earlier ones. For example, if you have a receipt for your March rent, the court presumes you also paid your January and February rent.

This matters in disputes where someone claims you missed a payment. The receipt for a later payment shifts the burden to the other side. They would need to prove you skipped an earlier payment rather than you having to prove you made it.
