If you went to a doctor to get help committing a crime or covering one up, your conversations with that doctor are not protected.

The normal doctor-patient privilege lets patients keep their medical conversations private. But that protection goes away if the whole point of seeing the doctor was to help plan a crime, carry one out, or avoid getting caught afterward. The same applies to civil wrongs, called torts, not just crimes.

For example, if someone visited a doctor to get advice on how to harm another person, or to hide evidence of wrongdoing, the doctor could be required to share what was said in court.
