Rule 998 There is no privilege under this article in a criminal proceeding.

The lawyer-client privilege rules in this article do not apply in criminal cases. If you are involved in a criminal proceeding, you cannot use these privilege rules to block information from being shared in court.

This matters if you are a defendant, witness, or anyone else in a criminal case. The protections that might apply in a civil case simply do not exist here under this particular set of rules.
