§ 1231.2 [Peace Officer Authority to Administer Oaths]

When a police officer is involved in gathering statements under this article, they have the authority to give someone an oath. This means the officer can officially swear a person in before they give a statement, just like a court official would.

If you are asked to give a sworn statement to a police officer, that oath is legally valid. You are bound by it the same way you would be if you took an oath in a courtroom.
