§ 145 [Hearing Defined]

When the Evidence Code uses the phrase "the hearing," it is talking about the specific court hearing where a question about evidence comes up. It does not mean a different hearing that happened before or one that might happen later.

This matters because evidence questions often come up at specific moments in a case. The rules about how to handle those questions apply to that exact hearing, not to the whole case in general.
