§ 351 [General Admissibility of Relevant Evidence]

In California courts, if evidence is relevant to a case, it can generally be used in court. Relevant means the evidence helps prove or disprove something important in the case.

However, there are exceptions. Other laws can block certain evidence from being used, even if it is relevant. For example, some evidence might be kept out because it is too prejudicial, was obtained illegally, or falls under a legal protection like attorney-client privilege.

The basic idea is simple: relevant evidence gets in, unless a specific law says otherwise.
