Rule 48 Number of Jurors

If your case goes to trial with a jury, six people will usually serve as jurors. This is the standard number for civil cases in Colorado. The two sides in the case don't have to accept six jurors, though. They can agree to use fewer, as long as there are at least three.

The rule also lets both sides agree on something else: they can decide that the verdict doesn't need to be unanimous. Instead, they can agree ahead of time that if a certain number of jurors (a majority) agree on the outcome, that will count as the jury's official decision. This agreement has to happen before the jury comes back with its verdict.
