Rule 1 Scope and Organization
(a) Authority These rules are authorized by Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 83 and Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 57.
(b) Organization These rules govern practice in the federal courts in Maine and supplement the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure.
(1) Civil Rules. Local Rules 1–83 relate to, and track, the corresponding Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Rules that apply to both criminal and civil matters are contained in Local Rules 1–83.
(2) Criminal Rules. The rules relating to criminal practice start with Local Rule 101. Each rule after that corresponds with the respective Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure. For example, Local Rule 101 corresponds with Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 1.
(c) Relaxation of Rules The Court may modify these rules when justice so requires.
