Rule 54.1 Security for Costs
(a) Security by Order of the Clerk Except as provided in subsection (c), any party defending a claim may file a request to compel a prosecuting party that is not a resident of Maine to provide security for the payment of all taxable costs. Upon receipt of the request, the Clerk will enter an order requiring the prosecuting party to provide security in the amount of $500 within 21 days.
(b) Modification or Rescission of Order On motion, the Court may modify or rescind an order under this rule.
(c) Parties Relieved of Security by Statute No order under this rule may issue against a party that is relieved of prepaying fees or security by 28 U.S.C. §§ 1915, 1916, or any other federal statute.
