CR 58.1 Fixed Sums Payable in Lieu of Appearance In criminal cases with petty offense charges at issue, defendants must be permitted to pay a fixed sum in lieu of appearance. Acceptance and payment of such fixed sum terminates the action. However, if payment of the fixed sum is not timely made, a magistrate judge may, in his or her discretion, fix a higher amount so long as the fixed sum does not exceed the maximum fine which could be imposed.
