LR 83.9a PURPOSE OF MEDIATED SETTLEMENT CONFERENCES These rules govern reference of selected civil actions for mediated settlement conferences. Their purpose is to provide for an informal process conducted by a mediator with the objective of helping the parties reach a mutually acceptable settlement of their dispute. The rules are not intended to force settlement upon any party. The rules shall be construed to secure the speedy, fair, and economical resolution of controversies while preserving the right of all parties to a conventional trial.
