Rule 2 Purpose and construction

The criminal court rules in Delaware exist for one main reason: to make sure every criminal case is handled fairly. They are meant to keep the process simple, treat people fairly, and avoid wasting time or money.

When a judge or lawyer needs to figure out how to apply these rules, they should always interpret them in the way that best serves fairness and simplicity. The rules are not meant to create extra hurdles or slow things down.
