Rule 58 Form of Judgment

When a court case ends, the judge issues a final order. That final order is the official judgment in the case. You do not need a separate piece of paper called a "judgment" because the final order itself serves that purpose.

However, the court does have the option to file the judgment as its own separate document if needed. This is allowed under a related rule called Rule 54(b), which covers situations where a case has multiple claims or parties and the court resolves only part of the case at one time.
