Rule 90.805 Hearsay within hearsay

Sometimes a statement contains two layers of hearsay. For example, a written report might quote what someone else said. Each layer counts as its own hearsay statement.

Both layers need to qualify under a hearsay exception for the whole thing to be allowed in court. If even one layer does not fit an exception, the statement cannot be used as evidence.
