Rule 8.705 Commencement of Proceedings

To start a guardianship advocate case for a child in Florida's juvenile court, someone must file a legal document called a petition. This petition asks the court to appoint a guardian advocate.

Once that petition is filed, the court clerk opens a new file for the case and gives it its own case number. This number is used to track everything that happens in the case going forward.
