Florida traffic court cases follow the same basic rules as criminal court cases. This means the procedures used in criminal cases also apply when you are dealing with a traffic matter.

When it comes to your right to a speedy trial, the clock starts ticking as soon as you are arrested or when you receive a traffic ticket, a notice to appear, a summons, or any other official court document. You do not have to be physically arrested for your speedy trial rights to begin. Simply getting a ticket or summons is enough to start that process.
