Rule 2 Extensions of Time

Extensions of time for any act required by these rules or the Hawai‘i Rules of Appellate Procedure, including the filing of a notice of appeal or cross-appeal under Rules 4(a)(4) and 4.1(e) of the Hawai‘i Rules of Appellate Procedure, may be granted only upon a showing of good cause. Extensions of time for applications for writs of certiorari may be filed in accordance with Rule 40.1 of the Hawaiʻi Rules of Appellate Procedure.

If a motion for extension of time is made after expiration of the time, the appellate court, absent a showing of good cause for the delay, may assess an appropriate monetary sanction against the late-filing party or counsel.

Parties shall not seek and the clerk shall not grant extensions pursuant to Rule 29(a) of the Hawaiʻi Rules of Appellate Procedure in child protective appeals.
