Rule 5 Docketing Confidential Documents, Exhibits, or Evidence

When someone files a confidential document, exhibit, or piece of evidence in a court case, it still gets listed on the court's docket just like any other filing. The docket entry will show that something was filed, even though the content itself stays private.

The fact that a document is confidential doesn't mean it disappears from the case record. Anyone looking at the docket can see that a filing exists. However, who can actually open and read that confidential material is a separate question. That's decided by Rule 10.4, which spells out the specific rules for accessing sensitive documents, exhibits, or evidence in a case.
