Rule 1.2 Family Court Cases Maintained in Jims.

Family Court keeps most of its case records in an electronic system called JIMS. This means that if you have a family court case, like a divorce or custody matter, your case file is stored and managed digitally in this system.

There are two exceptions to this rule. Cases involving child abuse or neglect (filed under the Child Protective Act) and cases involving juvenile offenders are not kept in JIMS. These types of cases are handled differently because they often involve sensitive information about children.

For cases that are kept in JIMS, all documents must be filed electronically. You will use either JEFS or JIMS, depending on which system applies to your case, and you must follow Hawaiʻi's rules for electronic filing and serving documents. This means paper filing is generally not an option for these cases, and you will need to use the proper electronic system to submit anything to the court.
