Rule 2.4 External Influences on Judicial Conduct

Judges have to make decisions based on the law and facts, not on outside pressure. This rule says a judge cannot let public opinion, media criticism, or fear of backlash change how they rule on a case. They need to do what's legally right even if it's unpopular.

The rule also says judges cannot let personal relationships affect their decisions. This includes family ties, friendships, political connections, or financial interests. A judge's rulings should come from the law, not from who they know or what might benefit them personally.

Finally, judges cannot let anyone believe they have special access or pull with the court. A judge cannot allow friends, family, or donors to hint that they can get favorable treatment because of their connection to the judge. This keeps the courts fair, so everyone believes their case will be judged on its merits, not on who they know.
