Rule 111 Conversion to Custodial Arrangement

If someone is managing money for a person under a conservatorship, they can ask the court for permission to move some of that money into a simpler type of account called a custodial account. This is only allowed if the amount is $10,000 or less. The custodial account follows the rules of Hawaii's Uniform Transfers to Minors Act, which is a law designed for holding money on behalf of a minor.

Once the money is moved into this account, it stays there until the young person turns 18 or 21, depending on what the law requires. This setup can make things easier because a custodial account is usually simpler to manage than a full conservatorship. But the conservator still needs the court's approval before making this change, since it involves moving money that belongs to someone else.
