Rule 7 Dismissal

If a case doesn't meet the requirements to move forward, either side can ask the court to dismiss it, or the court can decide to dismiss it on its own. This is called dismissing a case "for cause," which means there has to be a valid reason for ending the case this way.

In practice, this gives the court power to close out cases that shouldn't continue, even if neither side specifically asks for that. It also lets a party who wants to end the case file a motion asking the judge to dismiss it. Either way, the dismissal has to be based on a real, justified reason, not just because someone wants to stop the case.
