Rule 2.1 Social Security Numbers

If you file a document with the court that includes a social security number, you should only write the last four digits. This helps protect people's private information from being exposed in court records that others might see.

This rule applies to anyone filing paperwork in a misdemeanor case, including defendants, attorneys, and other parties involved. Instead of writing out a full social security number, use something like "XXX-XX-1234" so only the last four digits show. This keeps sensitive personal information safer while still letting the court identify the right person when needed.
