Rule 16 Certification Instead of Notarization

Instead of getting a document notarized, you can use a written certification to swear that something is true. This is allowed for any sworn statement filed in an Illinois court.

The certification comes from a specific Illinois law (735 ILCS 5/1-109). It lets you sign a statement declaring that what you wrote is true, without needing to go to a notary public.
