Rule 105 Limited Admissibility

Sometimes a piece of evidence is allowed in court for one specific reason, but it cannot be used for other reasons. For example, a statement might be allowed to show someone knew about a situation, but not to prove the situation actually happened.

If you are involved in a case and this happens, you can ask the judge to give the jury special instructions. The judge will tell the jury exactly what they can and cannot use that evidence for. This helps make sure the jury only considers the evidence in the right way.
